B 849 was launched to assist a 34’ yacht whose crew had managed to wrap their cable around the keel while anchoring. 

The Lifeboat crew managed to free the chain after which the yacht, with a small baby on board, made her way up river to Fambridge without further assistance.

B 849 launched to assist four people on board a yacht which had drifted ashore on a windless day as they were unable to start the engine on account of a flat battery. 

The yacht was too fast aground for the Lifeboat to tow it off the shore, so the Lifeboat crew made sure she was properly anchored and brought the crew back to Burnham Yacht Harbour. 

The owner retrieved the yacht later that evening with the help of friends and a jump-start battery pack.

The IB1, Ernest & Rose Chapman II, was launched to assist a 23’ yacht with a broken mast. 

The Lifeboat put a man on board and towed her towards her mooring at Paglesham until the crew had got the rig safely back on board and the yacht was safe to make her own way back to her mooring.

B 849 launched in response to a report that an apparently empty dory was lying on the edge of the Buxey Sands. 

The LB crew dragged the dory off the sand and towed it to Essex Marina from where it had gone missing.

B 849 the ‘Tony and Robert Britt’, launched to assist a Drascombe Lugger with one person on board.

She was struggling to get back into the Crouch with a broken forestay and a wind over tide chop making his small outboard ineffective. 

The Lifeboat put a crewman on board and towed him to his mooring off Essex Marina.

As B 849 was entering the Burnham Fairway with a broken down speedboat in tow, she was diverted to assist a 31’ yacht with a rope round her propeller and unable to sail against an ebb tide with next to no wind. 

She left the speedboat on a mooring to be picked up by the IB1 and proceeded to the yacht which was near the Buxey number 2 buoy. 

Not only was the yachts propeller fouled but her rudder was also jammed off centre necessitating a very slow tow back to Burnham Yacht Harbour.

B 849 was launched to assist a 20’ speedboat with an engine breakdown near Shore Ends. 

As she was entering the Burnham Fairway, she was diverted to another casualty, so she left the speedboat on a mooring to be picked up by the IB1, which then towed it to Essex Marina.

B-849 the ‘Tony & Robert Pritt’s’ first shout was to a 10.5 metre charter angling vessel with an electrical problem that prevented her crew from using their VHF or starting her engines; initial contact having been made by mobile phone. 

The Lifeboat located the casualty and put a crew man onboard and then commenced a three hour tow back to her base at Essex Marina where she was met by Coastguards and an electrical engineer.

Both Lifeboats were launched to search for two persons who had been carried beyond their yacht by the tide while attempting to row back to their yacht after a trip ashore. 

They had managed to grab hold of and climb onto a yacht some distance down tide as they drifted past. 

The Lifeboat located them and took them and their dinghy back to their own yacht and then checked that the first informant who had been rowing back to another yacht was also OK.

D 672 Ernest & Rose Chapman II, was launched to assist a five metre RIB anchored off Creeksea and unable to start their outboard. 

The Lifeboat towed it to Burnham Yacht Harbour and refuelled and made ready for her next service.
