Burnham Carnival Committee Boost Boathouse Appeal!

4.12.09 Carnival cheque compWalter Jenkins, Burnham RNLI Treasurer and Chairman of  the Floating Boathouse Appeal Committee collected a welcome boost to the target total this week, from the 2009 Burnham Carnival Queen.

The Burnham on Crouch Carnival Committee rules state that they do not give donations to National Charities,  however as this year Burnham RNLI are appealing to the local community to help raise funds for a new facility for the local Station they are able to assist this year.

John Randall Chairman of Burnham Carnival Committee said “the RNLI always support the Carnival through involvment in the 999 races and the illuminated procession and this year the RNLI float had collected the most money during the procession – over £700.”

Walter thanked the Carnival Committee for their support  presenting cheque for £1500 to the Boathouse Appeal and explained taht although the RNLI assist the local yacht club members, the crew are also tasked to assist members of the local community. Of the four fatalities the volunteer crews have had to respond to this year, two have been to members of the public unconnected with leisure use on the river.
