eBay Auction To Help RNLI’s SOS Day

By Claire Rawlinson | January 23, 2009

kos-boat-w-radio-transThe RNLI is to hold an eBay auction from this Saturday 24 January to 30 January with all the money going towards its volunteer lifeboat crews.

The list of biddable items includes a radio-controlled model of a powerboat that won the 2007 P1 power boating world championships donated by shaver manufacturer King of Shaves (pictured).  This fully-working replica can get up to 35 mph, is approximately 5ft long and worth £800.

Also VIP visits to many East Anglian lifeboat stations, including Burnham on Crouch Lifeboat Station, which include a guided tour of the lifeboat station for a party of up to four people. Winners will have the opportunity to learn all about the station, how it operates and the traditions of the lifeboat service, plus a tour around the lifeboat and its equipment.

Additionally a copy of the “Three Men in a Boat” book by Jerome K. Jerome and signed by Griff Rhys-Jones, Rory McGrath and Dara O’Briain, two SOS t-shirts signed by Ipswich Town footballers, plus two Danbury Mint bears – “Tom in a hurry” and “Simon reaches out”, both in immaculate condition, boxed.  These are highly collectable and the 2004 Clacton appeal pin badges were based on these two bears, as well as many other items.

RNLI Regional Event Manager Rachel Clarke said: ‘This is a great opportunity to show your support for the RNLI and gain some really original auction items. All money raised goes towards supporting our lifeboat crews who go out in all weathers to save lives at sea.’

The link to access the RNLI’s auction is www.ebay.co.uk/charity, bidders then simply type “RNLI” to view the items.
