The lifeboat was paged during the crew’s summer barbeque alongside the lifeboat house. A yacht entering the River Crouch on her way to Burnham had reported an engine problem. The elderly couple on board were very tired after sailing the boat round from St Catherine’s Yacht Haven and the disabled engine meant that they would have to sail the five miles up to Burnham against both wind and tide.

The lifeboat easily found the casualty vessel and towed her from the Outer Crouch buoy to Burnham Yacht Harbour, after which the crew re-joined the rest of the station personnel at an excellent party.
