Shout: Steering Failure Leading To Collision

Launched 13:55, Rehoused 14:30
One of the station DLAs was on the Burnham waterfront when he saw Kapitan Ryntsyn, a 3000+ tonne Russian timber ship, veer out of the main channel and hit two boats moored off Priors Boatyard.
As somebody was known to be working on one of the boats, he paged the Lifeboat crew for an immediate launch. Arriving on scene the Lifeboat found that the first boat, Moonfleet, had been swept aside by the bulb on the ship’s bow and suffered superficial damage to her quarter.
The owner who was unhurt had let go his mooring to persue the other yacht, Noosa, whose mooring had broken so she was now drifting down tide.
The ship, which had a pilot on board had by now dropped an anchor and swung to the tide. The Lifeboat assisted in the recovery of the Noosa and then returned to station while a pair of tugs took the ship back to the timber wharf.
