Thames Coastguard phoned the DLA to advise him that a yacht was aground on the north edge of the Foulness Sand and had been bumping on a 2′ wind over tide swell and before settling she dried out.  The Lifeboat crew found that she was a very well found and little used yacht on her way to new owners in Ireland under the charge of a professional delivery crew.

Two of the LB crew waded to the yacht and looked at her rudder as the skipper was worried that it could have been damaged.  It appeared to be at a slight angle to the keel, so the crew laid out an anchor for the yacht and then went on board to look inside the yacht where the rudder stock ran through a lazarette locker, which the skipper was worried might flood as the yacht refloated.

The LB took the two crew back to the Station leaving the skipper on board on anchor watch until the yacht refloated.  The Lifeboat returned shortly before the yacht was due to float off and was joined shortly by Walton ALB in case a salvage pump was needed.  The Burnham Lifeboat put a crewman on board to assist the skipper on the way back to Burnham under her own power and once it was established that there was no ingress of water, Walton ALB returned to Station while the Burnham LB escorted the yacht to Burnham Yacht Harbour.
