Shout: Vessel Unsure Of Her Position

Launched 06:30, Rehoused 11:30

Atlantic launched to assist a yacht reportedly dragging her anchor in the approaches to the Crouch, with all 3 POB fatigued and suffering from sea sickness. On passage from the Swale to Burnham, they had been aground and had anchored close to a red and white buoy which they thought was the Inner Crouch.

The LB found nothing in the vicinity of the entrance to the Crouch. While they were discussing the situation with Thames Coastguard, the fisheries protection vessel Protector III which was on the slip at Burnham Yacht Harbour gave a DF bearing of 085.

Crossed with a bearing from Thames Coastguard at Walton, this gave a position somewhere in the Barrow Deep. The Coastguard now paged Walton ALB, while the Atlantic proceeded offshore and found the casualty about 2.5 miles NE of Barrow No 5.

She then towed the casualty on a reciprocal course to that given by the Walton ALB and transferred the tow to the ALB. Walton towed the yacht as far as the Outer Crouch Buoy where the tow was transferred back to the Atlantic which brought the yacht up river to Burnham Yacht Harbour while the ALB returned to station.
