Shout: Vessel Unsure Of Her Position

By Claire Rawlinson | October 9, 2003

Launched 14:22, Rehoused 17:00

The Lifeboat was launched to assist the crew of a yacht on passage from Eastbourne to Burnham who were unsure of their position.

A passing fishing vessel was relaying her radio traffic to the coastguard, who asked the yacht to drop her anchor and stay where she was.  The Lifeboat found the yacht at the southern End of the Swin Spitway.  They also discovered that she had an error of some 50 degrees on her steering compass and no back-up such as a hand bearing compass, so the crew escorted the yacht to Burnham Yacht Harbour.
