The Crew
The Lifeboat Crew at Burnham on Crouch is as diverse as any you will find across the country. It consists of engineers, architects, police officers, builders, paramedics, marine engineers, scientists, IT consultants, self-employed business people and housewives – as many different walks of life as you could possibly shake a lifejacket at!
It is not a specific requirement of the RNLI that crew members have experience of or come from a sailing background. The only real requirements are a willingness to drop everything at a moments notice, be a team player and reasonably fit.
The volunteer crew at Burnham are a strong team committed to working together to help people who have run into trouble on the River Crouch and surrounding area and whose lives could be in danger.
There are a number of experienced and highly trained helms (including a lady helm!), qualified to operate and command both the Atlantic 75 and IB1 boats.
There are currently 20 members of the regular crew, two mechanics, four Deputy Launch Authorities, a Lifeboat Operations Manager, Training Officer, Press Officer and a Sea Safety Officer – and that’s not including the many support staff who also give their time and commitment to the continuing success of the Station and the community it serves.
If you ever need the help of the Lifeboat Service in Burnham on Crouch, here are some of the faces you could be seeing!
